Jurgi Oteo earned his return to Bilbao Athletic. The promising young winger left the club to join his hometown Barakaldo last season where he flourished, scoring 6 goals in 31 appearances. It was a learning experience for the Lezama product who found his way back to Bilbao Athletic this summer, just one year later.

Having lost several key players, Oteo was expected to play a major role in his return to Lezama. However, that hasn’t been the case. Other wingers such as Gaizka Larrazabal, Iñigo Muñoz, Asier Córdoba, and even Jon Morcillo and Antonio Salado have been prioritized. Oteo has only featured 7 times this season, making only one start.

Oteo has been weighing up his options over the last several weeks and, even with Aritz Solabarrieta taking over for Gaizka Garitano, he won’t continue the season at Bilbao Athletic. The club officially announced on Wednesday that the 22-year-old has returned to Barakaldo where he will spend the rest of the season on loan. Jurgi Oteo will have the chance to play more regular minutes as he continues his development.
