Alberto Uribe-Echevarría And Aitor Elizegi Officially Presented As Athletic Club Presidential Candidates
It’s been a stressful month and a half around the city of Bilbao. Potential Presidential candidates came and went and many started to believe that there wouldn’t even be an election on the scheduled date of 27 December. Then former club accountant Alberto Uribe-Echevarría stepped forward. Two days later he was joined by famous chef and businessman Aitor Elizegi and the stage was set.
Over the past few weeks both men have been giving interviews, discussing their ideas for the future of Athletic, and working to collect enough signatures of support from Socios to formalize their candidacies. The deadline to turn in signatures was last Friday and since then the club has been analyzing the counts before announcing the results today.
To formalize their candidacies both had to collect at least 2,069 signatures which is 5% of Socios who are eligible to vote. After counting and analyzing the signatures Athletic Club officially presented both Uribe-Echevarría and Elizegi as candidates for the Presidency on Wednesday afternoon which means that voting will take place on 27 December to determine who will take control of Ibaigane.
Uribe-Echevarría originally turned in 4,075 signature and the final count revealed that 3,972 of those were validated. Elizegi had turned in 3,123 with 2,942 being validated. Along with their presentations Athletic also announced the Board of Directors for both candidates which are as follows:
