Fernando Llorente “If I Have The Opportunity, I Would Like To Return To Athletic”
With the January transfer window opening in just a few weeks, and Athletic Club’s upcoming Presidential elections, Fernando Llorente has been a major topic of discussion in Bilbao. Former President Josu Urrutia had no intention of over bringing the striker back to the San Mamés due to a fractured relationship, but whoever takes over control of Ibaigane on 27 December could have other plans.
The 33-year-old looks almost certain to leave Tottenham in January as he has been unable to carve out a regular role in the team and has been outspoken about his desire to return to La Liga. “My priority is to feel important in a team”, he told reporters after Tuesday’s match against Barcelona. “If I have the opportunity and the club talk to me, yes, I would like to return to Athletic.”
“Tottenham have the option to extend my contract for another year, so leaving in the winter market doesn’t depend on me”, he explained, “Athletic would have to talk to Tottenham.” There is belief that a return to his boyhood club could be a real possibility for Llorente if the next President wants him back at the San Mamés. Fans now seem more receptive of welcoming back the striker but only time will tell if it will actually coe to fruition.
