After picking up only two points over the last three games Bilbao Athletic made a statement at Lezama against Langreo on Saturday. Iñigo Vicente and Asier Villalibre both scored a brace and Gaizka Larrazabal added a goal of his own as the Katxorros cruised to a 5-1 win. The victory saw Gaizka Garitano’s side move to within four points of the promotional playoff zone and they will be looking to make up even more ground on Sunday when they travel to face Sporting.

Balmaseda 1-1 CD Basconia

Basconia faced a difficult test on Saturday when they traveled to La Baluga for a match against Balmaseda. The first half ended scoreless but midfielder Oier Zarraga gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute. Balmaseda pushed for an equalizer and were able to draw level in the 78th minute as the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Basconia currently occupy 10th place in the league table but could move as high as 5th with a win over Real Sociedad C at home on Saturday.

Athletic Juvenil A 0-1 San Juan

Things have not gone well for Athletic’s Juvenil A team this season. Andoni Galiano’s side have only earned four wins all year and were even flirting with the relegation zone at one point which has not happened in a very long time. Last weekend’s 4-0 win over Amorebieta brought excitement, but the Katxorros came crashing back down to earth with a 1-0 loss to San Juan at Lezama on Saturday. It was an extremely disappointing result and concern has continued to grow over the last few weeks with the team adrift in the middle of the table. Thursday’s away match against Santutxu will present another difficult challenge as the Juvenil A team look to respond with a positive result.
