Alberto Uribe-Echevarría Officially Announces His Candidacy For Athletic Club President
There is finally clarity. Alberto Uribe-Echevarría will run for Athletic Club President. After being denied by Javier Aldazabal, Genar Andrinua, and José Ángel Corres, the former Board of Directors finally have their continuist candidate that will run in the December Presidential elections.
Uribe-Echevarría officially announced his candidacy in a public message on Facebook late Thursday evening which confirmed the many reports claiming that he had made the decision to step forward.
According to a report from Juanma Velasco of Marca, Uribe-Echevarría has been moving to collect the needed 3,000 signatures from Socios since Wednesday and has also been working to put together his Board of Directors. He confirmed in his public statement that his group will be comprised of some who worked alongside him under Josu Urrutia, as well as others from outside the club.
On Thursday evening the club officially announced that Elaia Gangoiti, Laura Martínez, Javier Aldazabal, Genar Andrinua, and Ignacio Palacios-Huerta had all resigned their roles with the Management Committee which is now composed of just Josu Urrutia, Jon Muñoz, and Jokin Garatea. Those stepping down are believed to be joining Uribe-Echevarría’s Board of Directors which was the reason for the sudden announcement.
Potential candidates have until 7 December to submit their applications and as of now Alberto Uribe-Echevarría will be running unopposed. Unless that changes he will become the new President of Athletic Club on 12 December instead of having to wait until the scheduled voting on 27 December. The entire electoral process has been a whirlwind of news and rumors, but it finally looks like there is clarity in the form of the accountant who has helped guide Athletic to a state of financial strength. Alberto Uribe-Echevarría will run for Athletic Club President.
Through this note I want to announce my decision to submit my candidacy to the electoral process recently launched by Athletic Club for its Presidency and Board of Directors.
In the next few days we will tell you the final composition of the candidacy, which will be made up of people form the last Board of Directors, as well as others, with many common ideas on our vision of the club.
Finally, we want to highlight the commitment and responsibility that has always accompanied our decisions in our work and that, at this time, they will be our revelation and bet to lead Athletic Club into the future.
