Lezama Weekend Recap: Juvenil A Secure A Vital Win When They Needed It Most
Barakaldo 1-1 Bilbao Athletic
Gaizka Garitano’s team had a great opportunity to make up ground in the league table on Sunday when they traveled to take on a strong Barakaldo side. Jon Morcillo gave Bilbao Athletic a 1-0 lead in 56th minute, but the hosts responded with an equalizer just ten minutes later. The game ended in a 1-1 draw which means that the Katxorros have now gone three straight fixtures without a win. They will try to change that on Saturday when they host Langreo at Lezama.
CD Basconia 3-1 Zamudio
CD Basconia’s fine form continued on Saturday as they defeated Zamudio 3-1. Xabier Arberas opened up the scoring in the 19th minute and Youssouf Diarra doubled the lead before the break. In the second half, 17-year-old midfielder Beñat Prados, who was making his debut for the feeder club, scored the third and final goal. The three points saw the Basauritarras move to within six points of the promotional playoff zone of the table and they will be looking to move even higher on Sunday when they travel to take on Balmaseda.
Athletic Juvenil A 4-0 Amorebieta
It hasn’t been the season that Athletic’s Juvenil A team had hoped for. After picking up just one point over their last three matches they entered the weekend a mere three points off of the relegation zone. Andoni Galiano’s side needed to make a statement on Saturday and that is exactly what they did. Marco Diliberto and Aitor Cuenca both found the back of the net as Josu Juste scored twice to earn a 4-0 win over Amorebieta. Sunday’s match against San Juan will give the team the chance to build on their impressive victory at Lezama.
Tolosa 3-4 Athletic Juvenil B
Athletic’s Juvenil B side were in for a difficult game on the road against Tolosa on Saturday, but they were up for the challenge. Mikel Mendibe and Aimar Collante both scored while Nico Serrano added a brace in a hard-fought 4-3 win. The Katxorros are still in control at the top of the table and could extend their lead on Sunday when they host Leioa at Lezama.
Athletic Cadete A 4-1 Vasconia
Athletic’s Cadete A team entered the weekend on the three game losing streak and desperately wanted to turn things around. Hugo Rincón, Erlantz Palacín, Peio Manrique, and Luis Bilbao all found the back of the net as the defeated visitors Vasconia 4-1. The victory helped the Katxorros climb back into the middle of the table and they could move as high as third on Sunday when they travel to face off with Deusto.
Athletic Cadete B 6-1 Lekeitio
Coming into the weekend at the top of the table, Athletic’s Cadete B team wanted to continue their unbeaten start to the season. They hosted Lekeitio at Lezama and cruised to a 6-1 victory thanks to goals from Ibon Sánchez, Tirfe Gómez, Aimar Peña, Ekhi Habtamu, Kerman Junquera, and Asier Vega. They will be back on the road on Sunday as they take on Galdakao.
Athletic Infantil A 5-0 Loiola Indautxu
Athletic’s Infantil A team continued their impressive run on Saturday with a 5-0 win over Loiola Indautxu at Lezama. José Luaces’s side have now won all eight games to start the season and have scored 66 total goals to this point. They will try to keep their perfect record alive and strong on Saturday when they travel to Trapagaran. The Katxorros won the first meeting 11-1 earlier this season.
Gatika 0-5 Athletic Infantil B
It’s now two straight wins for San Mamés 2006 who defeated Gatika 5-0 on the road on Saturday. The Infantil B team put in an impressive performance and are now turning their attention to table leaders Baskonia. The two will face off on Saturday in what promises to be an entertaining fixture. Earlier this season Baskonia won the first meeting 3-0 at Lezama.
Bermeo 4-1 Athletic Infantil C
After winning three straight games Alirón 2006 fell 4-1 on the road to Bermeo on Saturday. They came into the weekend tied with Retuerto Sport at the top of the table, but Saturday will be the biggest test of the year. The Infantil C team will travel to take on Retuerto in what could turn out to be the game that decides the season.
Athletic Alevin A 1-1 Lemoa Harrobi
San Mamés 2007 faced a tough opponent on Saturday as they hosted Lemoa Harrobi at Lezama. The first meeting between the two ended in a 1-1 draw and which turned out to be the same result in round two. The Alevin A team still trail Santutxu at the top of the table and will travel to Gernika on Saturday.
Santutxu 0-8 Athletic Alevin B
It’s been a poor run of form for Athletic’s Alevin B team who came into the weekend on a four game losing streak. Thankfully, they were able to respond in a big way on Saturday as they went on the road and beat Santutxu 8-0. Alirón 2007 need to build on the momentum and will try to do so on Saturday when they will travel to Balmaseda who they defeated 4-2 earlier this season at Lezama.
Athletic Alevin C 12-2 Zalla
San Mamés 2008 put in an impressive showing on Saturday, defeating Zalla 12-2 at Lezama. It was the team’s third win in four matches and they are now within striking distance of the top spot in the table. They will travel to Balmaseda on Saturday as they look to keep their unbeaten streak going.
Gaztelueta 3-3 Athletic Alevin D
Alirón 2008 have won all four games they’ve played this season and were in sole possession of the top spot in the table before Saturday’s game against Gaztelueta. It was a hard-fought match that saw the Katxorros draw 3-3 on the road, which was a good enough result for them to keep their lead in the standings. They will host Askartza on Saturday as they look to build on their advantage.
Mungia 1-11 Athletic Alevin E
Another weekend another win for Athletic’s Alevin E team who defeated Mungia 11-1 on the road on Saturday. The victory saw them win their fifth straight game to start the season, but they still have stiff competition at the top of the table. The Katxorros will host Loiola Indautxu on Saturday as they attempt to remain perfect.
