Manchester United Reportedly Sent Scouts To Watch Iñigo Vicente And Other Bilbao Athletic Stars Against Barakaldo
The first team may be struggling this season, but there is always exciting young talent coming through Lezama. The future of the club is in the hands of starlets who have already made their debuts and others who are currently competing with Bilbao Athletic. With so much quality on display it should be no surprise that other clubs across Europe are taking notice.
According to a report from Ander Cotorro of Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United scout Toni Lima was in attendance for Bilbao Athletic’s match against Barakaldo on Sunday at Lasesarre. Sources say that he was there to watch starlets like Gaizka Larrazabal, Asier Villalibre, Victor San Bartolomé and most notably Iñigo Vicente who is seen as the pearl of Lezama. The 20-year-old has a contract through 2020, which can be automatically extended by the club if he reaches the first team, and a release clause of €8 million.
The fact that a club like Manchester United actually sent a scout to watch Bilbao Athletic play in person shows an understanding that there is quality in the team. Midfielder Unai Vencedor had already been scouted by other clubs in England, but he is preparing to sign a new lucrative contract with Athletic. The club will also likely be working on new deals for starlets like Iñigo Vicente who are viewed as the future of the first team.
