Iago Herrerín “We Are In A Situation Where We Are Being Killed By The Little Details”
There was nothing Iago Herrerín could do as he watched Getafe score an equalizer in the second half of Sunday’s match at the San Mamés. The draw meant that Athletic had gone a club record 12 straight league games without a win and fans are not happy. After the game Herrerín spoke with AthleticTV where he was clearly upset with the result.
“We are in a situation where we are being killed by the little details. The other day in Madrid, we said what happened in the second half would never happen again, and it happened to us today. A shot to the corner found a player who is all alone at the post after we had already pulled ahead more with out hearts than with our heads. It was a shock. We were going for a victory and in the end we could have won or lost.”
Despite the poor results Herrerín is still optimistic about the team’s ability to turn things around. He says that the team trusts manager Eduardo Berizzo and the Mister believes in the players.
“We are not getting the three points and we have to come together. We are a team and trust the coach and he trusts in us. Wednesday’s game is important to get encouragement and strength for Monday’s game against Levante and move forward.”
Athletic will be back in action on Wednesday as they host Huesca at the San Mamés in the first leg of the Copa del Rey. Berizzo will have to rotate the lineup and it will be interesting to see if the team is able to pull off a win and start building confidence and momentum moving forward.
