Iker Muniain “I Am Fulling My Dream Of Spending My Entire Career At Athletic Club”
Iker Muniain has committed his future to Athletic Club. The 25-year-old signed a new contract on Wednesday which will run through 2024 and makes him one of the highest paid players in the team. The deal is also unique in the sense that it does not contain a release clause. Muniain told AthleticTV that he believed that leaving out a clause was the right thing to do to thank the club and fans for always supporting him.
“It’s surprising, but I think it’s the right thing. The club has always been supportive, even when I’ve had bad times. On my part this is a way of thanking the fans, the Board of Directors, the President, and all those who are a part of this family. The fans have always been affectionate towards me and have been sad when seeing other players leave. This was a way to show my loyalty to the club. I am fulfilling the dream that I have always had since I arrived at Lezama, which was to spend my entire career at Athletic. What I have always wanted has come true.”
At no time did Muniain ever consider leaving Athletic despite receiving interest from the likes of Napoli and Roma. He’s always been focused on continuing his career at Athletic and his new contract certainly makes that statement clear. The Lezama product was embraced by his teammates in training on Wednesday to celebrate the new contract and Muniain will publicly address the media on Thursday following the team’s morning training session.
