Eduardo Berizzo wants to see Athletic control games better (AC)

The Athletic Club players enjoyed their last training session of the week on Friday at Lezama before getting the weekend off as part of the international break. Eduardo Berizzo put a heavy emphasis on intense pressure by using drills in a small areas before utilizing the entire field. The Zurigorri know that they will need to make their opponents uncomfortable in upcoming games and want to make sure that they are prepared.

Berizzo was without Unai Simón and Unai Nuñez, who are both on duty with Spain’s U21 team, as well as Iñigo Martinez who played with Spain against Croatia on Thursday. Mikel Rico was unable to train as he is nursing a bruised ankle although the midfielder hopes to be back with his teammates on Monday. Meanwhile, Yeray is still training separately, but it’s important to note that his recovery is ahead of schedule.

Iñigo Lekue – who recently returned from a fractured ankle and made his season debut in Wednesday’s friendly match against Deportivo – left the group in the final stages of training. He joined physical trainer Imanol Martín to perform some different activities barefooted which is part of the recovery process. Lekue will soon begin battling for a place in Berizzo’s squad for upcoming matches.

Thankfully Iker Muniain and Yuri Berchiche were able to train normally on Friday. Muniain had a scare the previous day as did Berchiche who collided with Alex Remiro and injured his nose. Both were able to finish the session and had no problems on Friday. As already mentioned, the players will now have the weekend off and will return to training on Monday as they continue to prepare for the upcoming match against Getafe at the San Mamés on 25 November.
