Lezama Weekend Recap: CD Basconia Soaring Up The Table With Seven Game Unbeaten Streak


CD Basconia have won two games in a row and are playing their best football (CDB)

Racing 3-1 Bilbao Athletic

Bilbao Athletic came back down to earth on Sunday after beating Izarra 6-0 at Lezama last weekend. The Katxorros went on the road against league leaders Racing Santander and took a 1-0 lead into the break thanks to a goal from Asier Villalibre. However, their hosts drew level in the 55th minute and added two late goals to hand Gaizka Garitano’s side a 3-1 loss. They now sit 10th in the table and are four points off the promotional playoff zone. Bilbao Athletic will host Cultural Durango on Sunday as they look to pick up an important victory.

CD Basconia 2-0 Sodupe

Aritz Solabarrieta has CD Basconia flying at the moment. After losing four of their first five games the team has now gone seven matches without a loss thanks to a 2-0 win over Sodupe on Sunday. Defender Xabier Arberas and striker Rubén Azcona scored the goals for the Basauritarras who are now 10th in the standings and surging up the table. They will try to make it three wins in a row on Sunday when they travel to take on San Pedro who are currently at the very bottom of the table.

Athletic Juvenil A 1-1 Numancia

The Juvenil A team came into the weekend with a bad taste in their mouths after their 4-2 loss to Real Sociedad. They were anxious to respond in a big way, but had their hands full with a very strong Numancia side. After just 24 minutes in the Katxorros found themselves down 1-0 but refused to give up. Marco Diliberto scored late in the second half to rescue a point as the match finished 1-1. Andoni Galiano’s team are currently tied for 8th in the league table with Pamplona who just so happen to be their next opponent.

Lezama Juvenil A

The Juvenil A team rescued a point against a strong Numancia side (AC)

Arenas 4-0 Athletic Juvenil B

It was a disappointing weekend for the Juvenil B team who lost their second match of the year. They went on the road against Arenas who pulled off an impressive 4-0 win which also saw Athletic fall out of the promotional zone of the table. Vasconia will visit Lezama on Sunday as the Katxorros look to fight their way back to the top of the standings.

Athletic Cadete A 2-4 Antiguoko

The Cadete A team suffered their second straight loss on Saturday, falling 4-2 to Antiguoko at Lezama. Adur was able to add two goals but it just wasn’t enough for a positive result. After 10 matches they now sit 5th in the league table and are nine points off the top spot. They will host Lakua on Sunday who have only picked up one point so far this season.

Athletic Cadete B 2-1 Santutxu

Six games in and the Cadete B team are still unbeaten. They faced a challenging test on Saturday as they welcomed Santutxu to Lezama, but goals from Ieltxu and Aimar Peña led the Katxorros to a 2-1 win. Ander Alaña’s side are now tied with Leioa at the top of the table and will try to distance themselves on Sunday when they travel to face Sestao River who are only three points behind in the standings.

Lezama Infantil A

Athletic’s Infantil A team have scored 56 goals in six matches (AC)

Athletic Infantil A 10-0 Deusto

Another match, another fantastic performance from Athletic’s Infantil A team. The Katxorros are still perfect after beating Deusto 10-0 at Lezama which was their second meeting of the season. These two last met on opening day as Athletic won 11-1. José Luaces’s side have now won all six matches so far this year and stand alone at the top of the table. On Saturday they will travel to Barakaldo whom they defeated 7-0 earlier this year at home.

Gernika 2-3 Athletic Infantil B

San Mamés 2006, the Infantil B team, finally broke their streak of two straight losses on Saturday. It was a hard fought match on the road against Gernika but they were able to come away with a 3-2 victory and three very important points. They won’t be back in action again until 24 November when they will travel to Gatika whom they beat 2-1 earlier this year at Lezama.

Etxebarri 0-3 Athletic Infantil C

Alirón 2006 picked up their second straight victory on Saturday as they won 3-0 away from home against Etxebarri. They are still looking for a way to jump to the top of the table and will have another difficult game on their hands this Saturday. The Infantil C team will host Amorebieta at Lezama with their previous meeting ending in a 3-3 draw.

Santutxu 5-0 Athletic Alevin A

San Mamés 2007 came into the weekend with the chance to take down league leaders Santutxu and claim the top spot in the table. However, they were handed their first loss of the season as they fell 5-0 on the road. They will host Galdakao on Saturday at Lezama as they look to keep pace in the standings.

Athletic Alevin B 2-3 Indautxu

Alirón 2007 lost their third straight game on Saturday in an intense battle with Indautxu at Lezama. The Katxorros were able to score twice, but fell 3-2 as their visitors took all three points. This weekend will present the perfect opportunity for the Alevin B team to get back on the right track as they hit the road Saturday to take on Arenas who have yet to win a game so far this season.

Athletic Alevin C 10-3 Portugalete

San Mamés 2008 have been scoring goals for fun as of late. After winning 11-1 in their previous match they hosted Portugalete on Saturday and were able to pull off an impressive 10-3 victory at Lezama. They will be back in action this Saturday as they travel to take on Somorrostro who have been a dangerous team this season.

Iturrigorri 1-10 Athletic Alevin D

Athletic’s Alevin D team are still perfect three games into the season. Alirón 2008 went on the road against Iturrigorri where they won 10-1 and currently boast a +24 goal difference. They will be back at Lezama this Saturday where they will host Portugalete.

Lagun Artea 1-10 Athletic Alevin E

Athletic’s Alevin E team have also won every game so far this season and were impressive once again on Saturday. They traveled to Lagun Artea where they won 10-1, but there is still plenty of competition at the top of the league table. On Saturday they will host Barrika and try to add to their perfect record.
