Athletic Club’s Presidential elections are less than two months away and that means that candidates will be starting their campaigns very soon. As is usually the case, candidates will choose their platforms and seek to win over voters with promises and laying out specific goals that they want to accomplish. Whoever becomes the new President will have the entire January transfer window to make things happen and that will likely be a major focus during campaigns.

Two transfer targets that are likely to be serious focal points are Fernando Llorente and Ander Herrera. Llorente is currently playing with Tottenham where he has struggled to enjoy regular minutes and has been outspoken about his desire to return to La Liga. He’s also expressed interest in playing for Athletic once again. The 33-year-old striker could provide needed goal scoring for the team and is believed to be looking for a way out of Tottenham in January.

After watching Llorente leave Athletic back in 2013, Urrutia has never entertained the idea of brining him back to the club. With a new President taking over in December the striker could become a realistic target. Presidential candidates may also put a heavy emphasis in trying to bring back Ander Herrera as well. The 29-year-old will be out of contract with Manchester United in June and Athletic have been seriously pursuing him for over a year now. In January he will likely be a target once again.

When it comes to Presidential elections it is always important to remember that transfers are never a guarantee. Campaigns can promise to pursue a signing, but that doesn’t mean it will happen. There are also many other issues that will be major topics of discussion throughout the election process. With less than two months until voting takes place it won’t be long until the candidates emerge and begin to share their plans with the public.
