Yeray And Raúl García Suffer Injuries Against Espanyol, Dani García Faces Suspension
Monday night’s 1-0 loss to Espanyol was yet another disappointing result for Athletic Club who have now failed to win a single game in their last 10 matches. The Lions played well, but once again it just wasn’t enough to get the result they were hoping for. In addition to the loss Athletic also got some bad news that will affect three of their most vital players.
Yeray was forced to leave the field early in the second half after suffering a muscle injury in his left leg. Unai Nuñez took his place on the field and during halftime the club announced that Yeray will undergo further tests to determine the extent of the issue. The 23-year-old has been one of the best center-backs in La Liga this season and is now in danger of missing Saturday’s match against Atlético Madrid.
Raúl García was also the victim of an injury in the first half. He had his feet taken out from under him due to a late tackle and had to receive medical attention. The 32-year-old was able to return to the game, but afterwards Athletic announced that he had been diagnosed with a sprained left ankle. He will also undergo further tests which makes him a question to play against Atlético Madrid as well.
Lastly, Dani García was booked early in the second half after a harsh challenge which just so happens to be his fifth yellow card of the season. With that being the case he will now be forced to serve a one game suspension which means that he will miss Saturday’s match. Athletic Club are desperate for points right now and facing Atlético Madrid on the road without three key players would pose a major problem for the Zurigorri.
