Lezama Weekend Recap: Bilbao Athletic And CD Basconia Pick Up Big Wins

Bilbao Athletic 6-0 Izarra

Bilbao Athletic finally got back to their winning ways on Saturday after picking up just one point over their last five games. Victor San Bartolomé, Gaizka Larrazabal, and Asier Villalibre all scored a brace as the Katxorros defeated Izarra 6-0 at Lezama and are now just three points off of the promotional playoff zone of the table. The team will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to take on league leaders Racing Santander.

Bermeo 0-1 CD Basconia

CD Basconia’s impressive run continued over the weekend when they defeated Bermeo 1-0 on the road. Ruben Azcona scored the only goal and has found the back of the net three times in the past two games. The team struggled to create offense to start the season but the fantastic play from Azcona as of late has been a real difference maker. Aritz Solabarrieta’s side currently sit in the middle of the table and will be back in action on Sunday when they host Sodupe.

Real Sociedad 4-2 Athletic Juvenil A

Athletic’s Juvenil A team have not been able to find consistency so far this season and fell 4-2 to Real Sociedad on Saturday after coming off of a big win last weekend. Defender Julen Barruetabeña and forward Josu Juste each scored a goal, but it wasn’t enough as the team now sit 9th in the league table. They are seven points off of the Copa zone of the table and will host Numancia at Lezama on Saturday.

Athletic Juvenil B 4-0 Beasain

Athletic’s Juvenil B team were not happy after losing their first game of the season last weekend and were determined to make things right as quickly as possible. They cruised to a convincing 4-0 win over Beasain at Lezama and now trail Danok Bat by only two points at the top of the table. Mathys Lunel scored a brace while Eneko Clemente and Mikel López both added one goal of their own. They will travel to play Arenas Club on Sunday.

Eibar 3-1 Athletic Cadete A

After winning their last two matches Athletic Club’s Cadete A team fell 3-1 to Eibar on the road on Saturday. Koldo Guarrotxena scored the team’s only goal, his first of the season. Jon Solaun will be looking to get the team back on the right track next weekend when they host Antiguoko at Lezama. Three points separate Cadete A from league leaders Real Sociedad in what has been an extremely competitive league so far this season.

Indautxu 3-3 Athletic Cadete B

Athletic’s Cadete B dropped their first points of the season over the weekend when hosts Indautxu held them to a 3-3 draw. It was a difficult game for both sides that saw Ekhi score a brace with Aimar Peña adding the third. They still hold the top spot in the league table and will host struggling Santutxu on Sunday.

Zalla 0-8 Athletic Infantil A

Finding the words to properly describe Athletic’s Infantil A team has become quite hard. They had scored 41 goals over the first four games of the season entering the weekend and defeated Zalla 8-0 in yet another convincing performance. They now hold a six point lead at the top of the table and will be looking to build on that when they host Deusto at Lezama on Saturday.

Somorrostro 3-2 Athletic Infantil B

San Mamés 2006 suffered their second consecutive defeat on Saturday when they fell 3-2 to hosts Somorrostro. It was the team’s first road game of the year and they will be away from home again in their next match as they travel to face Gernika. The first meeting between these two ended in a 5-3 win for Athletic.

Athletic Infantil C 3-0 Montefuerte

Alirón 2006 rebounded from last weekend’s loss with a 3-0 win over Montefuerte on Thursday. It was the team’s first clean sheet of the season and they will be hoping to pick up three more points on Saturday when they travel to Etxebarri.

Athletic Alevin A 3-1 Betolatza

San Mamés 2007 won their fourth straight game on Thursday as they defeated Betolatza 3-1 at Lezama. The victory saw them take the top spot in the league table which they will defend on Saturday as they play a very good Santutxu team on the road.

 Athletic Alevin B 4-6 Lagun Artea

Alirón 2007 also lost their second straight game of the season on Thursday when they were defeated 6-4 by Lagun Artea. The defense gave up 10 goals over those two games after only conceding three times in the previous pair of matches to start the year. They will be back in action on Saturday as they host Indautxu at Lezama.
