Athletic Club Have Shown Interest In Signing Rayo Vallecano Starlet Sergio Moreno
Due to Athletic’s unique player policy the club is always attentive to Basque footballers of all ages. Every year new young stars are signed to Lezama, but Bilbao Athletic and the first team are constantly looking for ways to improve as well. With a limited pool of forwards coming through the academy at the moment the club is looking to strengthen the position and the Lions are already said to have identified a possible transfer target.
According to several sources close to the club, Athletic have shown interest in signing Rayo Vallecano forward Sergio Moreno. The 19-year-old was born and raised in Pamplona (which makes him eligible to play for Athletic) and is currently playing for Rayo Vallecano B where he has proven to be a deadly finisher in front of goal. Moreno is the leading scorer for the reserves and even made his first team debut earlier this season in a La Liga match against Atletico Madrid.
Rumors suggest that Athletic could be looking to sign Moreno during the winter transfer window where he would then play with Bilbao Athletic for the rest of the season. If the Basques do pursue the forward they will have a very big obstacle standing in their way. According to a recent report from Marcos de Vicente of Marca, Real Madrid obtained the right of first refusal for Moreno as part of their agreement to send Raúl de Tomás on loan to Rayo this season.
At this point only time will tell what will happen with Moreno who has shown the potential to become a very good goalscorer. Real Madrid hold all the cards when it comes to the 19-year-old’s future, but it would be a very impressive signing for Athletic if they were to make the transfer happen. For now the Zurigorri will continue to monitor the young forward and this will be a story to watch closely over the coming months.
