Julen Guerrero Calls Up Three Lezama Players For Spain’s U16 Squad
Athletic Club legend Julen Guerrero was recently named the new manager of Spain’s U16 team and has always had a passion for youth development. He has already been praised for his work and is currently getting ready for international time set aside from 5-7 November at Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas. On Tuesday he announced the squad list which contained three players from Lezama.
Guerrero called up goalkeeper Ibon Ispizua, midfielder Beñat Gerenabarrena, and forward Nico Serrano who are all currently playing for Athletic’s Juvenil B. Beñat has been an integral part of the team for Ibai Fuentes’ team while Serrano has scored four goals which is tied for the most with Nico Williams, the younger brother of Iñaki Williams. The trio will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience while on international duty.
When Julen Guerrero was named as the new Spain U16 manager many Athletic fans began to hope that he would give more chances to players from Lezama. So far that seems to be the case as only Atletico Madrid had more youth players called up to the squad with five. Barcelona and Celta de Vigo also have three representatives along with Athletic.
