Lezama Weekend Recap: Bilbao Athletic Continue To Struggle

Bilbao Athletic have now lost three straight games (MD)

Arenas Club 1-0 Bilbao Athletic

Things have not gone well for Bilbao Athletic since losing Oihan Sancet and Iñigo Baqué to knee injuries. Gaizka Garitano’s team were looking to turn things around around Arenas Club over the weekend and striker Asier Villalibre had two good chances to put the Katxorros ahead but couldn’t find the back of the net. Arenas then scored from a set piece in stoppage time to win 1-0 and hand Bilbao Athletic their third straight loss. They have only earned one points from the past five matches and currently find themselves in the middle of the table.

CD Basconia 2-2 Amurrio

Basconia have continued to play good football after struggling for the first five games of the season. They had earned seven points from their last three games going into Sunday’s match which saw them pick up another one in a 2-2 draw with Amurrio. Ruben Azcona scored a brace before Amurrio pulled a goal back. Aitor Paredes was then shown a second yellow card after the hour mark which helped Amurrio draw level in the final minutes.

Athletic Juvenil A 6-0 Oberena

The Juvenil A team got back to their winning ways on Saturday after losing to Txantrea last weekend. Marco Diliberto and Ander Lorente scored first half goals against Oberena followed by a brace from substitute David Hernández. Josu Jambrina and Aitor Cuenca also found the back of the net in the second half as Andoni Galiano’s side cruised to a 6-0 victory at Lezama.

Real Sociedad 1-0 Athletic Juvenil B

After winning their last three matches the Juvenil B team suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday. The Katxorros traveled to take on Real Sociedad who won the match 1-0 and the two rivals are now tied in the table with 17 points through eight games. They will be back in action on Sunday when they will host Beasain at Lezama.

Athletic Cadete A 3-1 Betoño

The Cadete A team made it two wins in a row on Saturday when they defeated Betoño 3-0 at Lezama. Hugo, Varela, and Adur found the back of the net to pick up all three points as they battle for the top spot in the league table. Varela and Adur have accounted for 9 of the squad’s 21 goals this season and the team will look to continue their fine form on Sunday when they travel to Eibar.

Athletic Cadete B 2-0 Bizkerre

Perfection continues for Athletic’s Cadete B who have won every game so far this season. Saturday’s 2-0 win over Bizkerre not only saw the team move to 4-0 on the year, but they have also yet to concede a goal to this point in the campaign. That streak could continue on Saturday when they will travel to play Indautxu who have only earned one point this season.

Athletic Infantil A 11-1 Trapagaran

The Infantil A has not stopped scoring goals since the season began. They defeated Trapagaran 11-1 at Lezama on Saturday to continue their perfect start to the season. Through the first four games of the year they have scored 41 goals and conceded just 3 times. On Saturday they will travel to face off with Zalla who are only three points behind Athletic in the league table.

Athletic’s Infantil A team have now scored 41 goals in four games (AC)

Athletic Infantil B 0-3 Baskonia

It wasn’t the best weekend for Athletic Infantil B, referred to as San Mamés 2006. The team lost their first game of the season falling to Baskonia 3-0 at Lezama on Saturday. They will go on the road for the first time this year on Saturday when they will Somorrostro.

Retuerto Sport 1-0 Athletic Infantil C

Alirón 2006, the Athletic Infantil C team, also lost their first game of the season over the weekend. Retuerto Sport won 1-0 at home and are now in sole possession of the top spot in the league table. The Katxorros are two points off and will try to get back to their winning ways at Lezama on Saturday when they host Montefuerte.

Athletic Alevin A 4-3 Arratia

San Mamés 2007, the Athletic Alevin A team, made it three straight wins on Saturday when they defeated Arratia 4-3. It was a close game between the two clubs and Athletic have now moved to just two points off of Santutxu for the top spot in the league table. On Saturday they will host Betolatza at Lezama and will be hoping to make up even more ground in the standings.

Zalla 4-3 Athletic Alevin B

Zalla handed Alirón 2007, Athletic’s Alevin B team, their first loss of the season over the weekend, winning 4-3 at home. The first two matches of the year saw the Katxorros with a combined score of 12-3, but Saturday’s defeat was a tough fought game that the youngsters can learn a lot from. They will be back at home on Saturday when they will host Lagun Artea.

Sestao River 1-11 Athletic Alevin C

San Mamés 2008, Athletic’s Alevin C team, picked up their first win of the year on Saturday. They traveled to Sestao River where they defeated their hosts 11-1 and now sit in the middle of the league table. They will be back in action on 10 November, when they will host undefeated Portugalete at Lezama.

Athletic Alevin D 14-2 Erandio

Alirón 2008, Athletic’s Alevin D team, won their second straight game to start the season by defeating Erandio 14-2 at Lezama on Saturday. They will be back on the road on 10 November when the will take on Iturrigorri as they try to keep their winning streak alive.

Athletic Alevin E 10-0 Getxo Futbola

There was a bit of drama over the weekend when Athletic announced on social media that their Alevin E team had beaten Getxo 25-0 at Lezama. Many people saw announcing the final score as demeaning to the other team and not in line with respectful sportsmanship. The club has since changed the score to show 10-0 on their website and the team will be back in action on 10 November when they will travel to Lagun Artea.
