Winter Loan Move Ruled Out For Cristian Ganea Who Is Hoping To Prove Himself At Athletic Club
Only three players have yet to be called up by Athletic manager Eduardo Berizzo. Alex Remiro and Iñigo Lekue’s absences aren’t surprising with the former entrenched in a contract dispute and the other still recovering from a fractured ankle. Meanwhile, new signing Cristian Ganea has been on the outside looking in but he is determined to fight for his place at the San Mamés.
According to a new report from Javier Beltran of AS, a few clubs have shown interest in signing Ganea on loan in January with Huesca mentioned by name. Despite not having any opportunities so far this season the 26-year-old has no plans to leave Athletic and wants to prove himself to manager Eduardo Berizzo. Likewise, the club will not listen to offers for the left-back.
Ganea broke onto the scene last season playing with Viitorul in Romania’s first division where he showed a knack for dribbling and scoring goals. He was signed by Athletic last summer with a designation to join the team the following year. Over the summer he was used as a left-back and in an attacking role with Berizzo praising the Romanian for his versatility.
As things stand right now Ganea sits behind Yuri Berchiche and Mikel Balenziaga at the left-back role and is even further behind at the wing position. Still, Berizzo has made it clear that he counts on each player and that everyone must be ready when called upon and. With the Copa del Rey starting in just a few days there will be more opportunities to go around and Ganea may finally have the chance to make his Athletic Club debut.
