Beñat is expected to return to action after Saturday’s match (AC)

Just one week after being admitted to the hospital with an infection and high fever, Beñat is close to making his return. The midfielder was discharged over the weekend and has been able to spend some time with his teammates at Lezama. Ahead of Athletic’s match against Rayo Vallecano, manager Eduardo Berizzo stated that Beñat would be back after Saturday’s game against Valencia and the 31-year-old is on track to meet that expectation.

Beñat was able to do jogging drills and some work with the ball at his feet during Thursday’s training session and could be fully integrated back into the team any day now. He seems to be fully recovered from the sickness that he was suffering from and is working to get back on the field as quickly as possible. Although he won’t be able to play against Valencia on Saturday, he could make his return in the following fixture.

Thursday’s training session also saw the players who featured against Rayo get some recovery work. They took to the field later than the rest of the team and Raúl García was allowed to head back to the locker room early. Athletic have now turned their attention to Saturday’s match against Valencia at the San Mamés as they look to pick up their first win since the opening game of the season.
