Gorka Guruzeta Will Not Leave On Loan In January Despite Interest From Several Clubs
Gorka Guruzeta has earned his place in the Athletic first team. The 22-year-old forward led Bilbao Athletic in scoring last year with 18 goals and was called up to train with the seniors over the summer and battle for a place in the squad. The decision was made for Guruzeta to stay under the orders of Eduardo Berizzo and he believes that he will get his chances throughout the season.
Several clubs tried to sign Guruzeta on loan over the summer, but Athletic rejected the approaches. Some teams are still monitoring his situation at Athletic with Real Zaragoza, Real Oviedo, and Extremadura said to be watching things closely according to a report from Javier Beltran of AS. Despite the interest, Athletic have no plans to send the forward away on loan in January and are not even entertaining offers.
Guruzeta has only played in two games so far this year, but he is a part of Berizzo’s plans. The manager has openly praised the Lezama product on several occasions saying, “He is a player who is waiting for his chance and he gives us many options in attack”. As the season progresses there will be more need to rotate the squad and Guruzeta will have opportunities to prove himself worthy of a bigger role at the San Mamés.
