Ander Capa Returns To Training Ahead Of Sunday’s Basque Derby Against Eibar
Athletic Club returned to training on Monday after enjoying the weekend off. The international break is finally coming to an end and Eduardo Berizzo is putting all of the focus on Sunday’s Basque Derby against Eibar at Ipurua. Having only picked up seven points from their opening seven matches, the Lions will be looking to get a fresh start this weekend and will be helped out by the fact that the squad is finally getting healthy.
Ander Capa missed training last weekend due to muscle discomfort but was finally able to rejoin his teammates on Monday. The right-back was able to participate in every drill and sources close to the club say that he is already available for Sunday’s match against his former club, barring any unforeseen setbacks. Oscar De Marcos may be the starter, but there is no denying Capa’s importance to the squad with the 26-year-old featuring in all but one game so far this season.
On another positive note, Aritz Aduriz has looked great in training as of late. The striker started for the Basque National Team on Friday against Venezuela and was back with Athletic on Monday without any complications. Before going into the international break Berizzo said that Aduriz was not quite ready to play full matches yet, but he could be in line to start against Eibar on Sunday if all goes according to plan.
Berizzo was only missing four players during Monday’s training with two of them, Unai Simón and Unai Nuñez, both on international duty with Spain’s U21 team. Iñigo Lekue continues to recover from a broken ankle, while Peru Nolaskoain played with Bilbao Athletic over the weekend. The Lions are desperate for a victory right now and will be hard at work throughout the rest of the week in preparation for Sunday’s Basque Derby at Ipurua.
