Athletic Club’s Suspended Match Against Rayo Vallecano Rescheduled For 24 October
A quick look at the La Liga table will confirm that Athletic have not had a good start to the season. The Lions currently find themselves in 17th place with just seven points from the opening seven games. However, it is important to note that they have played one less game with the match against Rayo Vallecano back in early September suspended due to stadium safety issues. That fixture will finally take place now.
After several weeks of deliberation between the league and both clubs a date has finally been set. Athletic announced on Wednesday that the match will be played on 24 October at 7:00pm at Vallecas. The rescheduled match now puts manager Eduardo Berizzo in a situation where he will need to start thinking ahead during the current international break because when league play resumes the Basques will play three games over the course of seven days.
Athletic will travel to Ipurua for the second Basque Derby of the season on 21 October before making the trip to Madrid to finally face Rayo Vallecano three days later. Then, on 27 October, Los Leones will host Valencia at the San Mamés. All three games will give Athletic the opportunity to make up valuable points in the table and it will be up to Berizzo to ensure that the team is firing on all cylinders while also rotating the lineup.
