Lezama Weekend Recap: CD Basconia Earn First Win Of The Season


CD Basconia earned their first win of the season (JB Monterrey)

The season has finally begun for most of the youth teams around Lezama and the weekend was full of excitement and goals. From the reserve team all the way down to the youngest players are working hard to improve and one day reach their dream of playing at the San Mamés. With that being said, here is the first Lezama weekend recap of the season.

Bilbao Athletic 0-0 Logroñés

Gaizka Garitano’s team continued their unbeaten streak at Lezama by playing Logroñés to a scoreless draw. It has now been 413 days since the Katxorros last lost a game at home and will go in to next week three points off of the top of the table. The complete match review can be found here.

CD Basconia 3-0 Pasaia

It hasn’t been a good start to the season for Aritz Solabarrieta’s CD Basconia. The team went into the weekend still without a win and struggling in the relegation zone of the table. It has been clear for a while that they needed a big result to get back on track and that is exactly what happened on Sunday. Goals from Ewan Urain, Youssouf Diarra, and Thaylor Aldama led Basconia to a 3-0 win over Pasaia to pick up three very important points.

Lezama Juvenil A

The Juvenil A team played a difficult road game against Antiguoko (AC)

Antiguoko 1-1 Athletic Juvenil A

Athletic’s Juvenil A team went through a major transition over the summer with most of the squad being promoted and manager Asier Solabarrieta’s taking over at Basconia. So far this season they are still looking to find their rhythm and are hoping to start climbing the table to reach the Cup zone. On Saturday they traveled to take on Antiguoko with the two sides playing to a 1-1 draw. Athletic’s goal was scored by David Hernández which was his second of the season.

Athletic Juvenil B 5-2 Hernani

The Juvenil B team have yet to lose a match this season and picked up their third win of the year on Saturday when they defeated Hernani 5-2 at Lezama. Iñaki Williams’ little brother Nicolas Williams led the team with two goals while Iñigo López, Nico Serrano, and Mikel López all added one as well. After five games Ibai Fuentes’s side find themselves just two points off of first place in the table.

Romo 4-1 Athletic Cadete A

Athletic’s Cadete A also entered the weekend unbeaten, but suffered their first loss of the season when they traveled to take on Romo. The game ended 4-1 with the lone goal being scored by Adur, which was his second of the season.

Athletic Cadete B 3-0 Balmaseda

Saturday saw the Cadete B team play their very first game of the season which took place at Lezama against Balmaseda. The side coached by former Basconia manager, Ander Alaña, were able to come away with a 4-0 win as they picked up three valuable points. The goals were scored by Ieltxu García, Aitor Vega, and Aimar Peña.

Lezama Infantil A

Athletic’s Infantil A team picked up the biggest win of the weekend (AC)

Deusto 1-14 Athletic Infantil A

Athletic’s Alevin A side also began their season on Saturday in thrilling fashion. Manager José Luaces led the team to a 14-1 win on the road against Deusto to pick up the first three points of the season.

Athletic San Mamés 2006 5-3 Gernika

Athletic’s Infantil B team, referred to as San Mamés 2006, also picked up their first win to start the season on Saturday. Goals from Adrián Pérez (2), Egoitz Tabuenca, Aimar Oliveros, and Ardaitz Villorejo led the team to a 5-3 win over Gernika at Lezama.

Athletic Alirón 2006 8-2 Etxebarria

To complete the sweep Athletic’s Infantil C team, referred to as Alirón 2006, defeated Etxebarri 8-2 at Lezama to get their season started on a positive note. Ander Peciña scored a hat trick and Guillem Atutxa added a brace while Oier Kortazar, Peio Huestamendia, and David Arreondo each found the back of the net once in route to three important points.
