Athletic Club Will Play Friendly Match Against Venezuela’s U20 Team On Thursday
The international break has brought a halt to Athletic Club’s season and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Eduardo Berizzo’s team have not had a strong start to the league campaign and will be looking to remedy issues before traveling to face off with Eibar at Ipurua on 21 October. In the meantime, there will be a few other matches that fans should be tuned in to watch.
On Friday the Basque National Team will be hosting Venezuela at the Mendizorrotza for an international friendly. This will be the first time that Euskal Selekzioa have played a match since their 3-1 win over Tunisia back in December of 2016. While several Athletic players are expected to be called up for the game, others staying behind will have the chance to play in a different friendly that will also be exciting in its own way.
The Athletic first team will host the Venezuela U20s at Lezama for a friendly match on Thursday as Eduardo Berizzo will look to keep his squad in competitive shape. So far this season there have been a few players who haven’t had the chance to enjoy minutes and this match will give them that opportunity. Iñigo Córdoba, Cristian Ganea, and others will have the opportunity to prove themselves to the manager while Iago Herrerín is expected to play for the first time since he suffered a biceps injury during the preseason.
As of right now the Basque National Team has yet to release the squad list for Friday’s game, but those who are called up will not be able to play in Thursday’s friendly at Lezama. At the same time, Unai Simón and Unai Nuñez are both on international duty with Spain and will not be available. That being said, this week will give many Athletic players the chance to compete during this break from La Liga and it is always very special to see Euskal Selekzioa in action.
