Athletic Club Targeting January Move For Ander Herrera
Athletic Club made some huge moves over the summer by signing Dani García and Yuri Berchiche, but they also had their eyes set on Ander Herrera. The Manchester United midfielder was arguably the club’s top target and they were hoping to convince him to return to the San Mamés by offering him a big contract. That didn’t happen as the 29-year-old chose to stay in England, but now things may be changing.
According to an exclusive report from El Correo, Athletic are lining up a move for Ander Herrera in the upcoming winter transfer window. The midfielder made the decision back in September that he would listen to offers in January and the Lions are ready to put a proposal on the table. With Herrera having only played 69 minutes so far this season the belief is that he is ready to leave Old Trafford and Athletic hope that they can convince him to return to Bilbao.
Over the summer Athletic were said to have offered Herrera a contract that would have made him one of the team’s highest paid players. That will likely be the case if the Basques do chase the 29-year-old again in January. At this point it appears as though Herrera does not figure into Jose Mourinho’s plans at Manchester United and the English side may be willing to cash in on the midfielder as opposed to letting him leave for free in June when his contract expires.
