Kepa Arrizabalaga “I Think Unai Simón Has Done Very Well”
Athletic fans haven’t forgiven Kepa Arrizabalaga for leaving the club to join Chelsea over the summer and that may never happen. The goalkeeper was seen as a pillar of the future and a legend in the making, but his exit completely changed his legacy. The baton was then passed to Alex Remiro and Iago Herrerín, but it was Unai Simón who stepped up in a huge.
In a recent interview with Perform Group, Kepa stated that he thinks Simón has done well this season and believes that the team have played good football under Eduardo Berizzo. He admitted that he is looking forward to meeting up with former teammates during the international break and says he will always follow Athletic closely.
“Obviously I follow Athletic. How could I not? I talk constantly with the former teammates and friends that I have there. During the upcoming international break I will go back to Bilbao and I will meet with them and it will continue to be like that. I think Unai Simón has done very well. Now Iago [Herrerín] has returned from his injury and the President has had a word about Alex [Remiro]. The Mister will decide, but the team looks good from the outside. They started well and when I was there the sensations were good. I think the work of Eduardo Berizzo is being noticed.”
After seeing Kepa leave the club just months after signing a new long-term contract, fans have quickly rallied behind Unai Simón. The 21-year-old has shown impressive quality and maturity so far this season and looks to be a special player for the present and future. Only time will tell if he will be able to keep his starting place with Herrerín having returned from injury, but there is no doubt that Simón already has the full support of the fans.
