Bilbao Athletic’s match against Logroñés on Saturday was full of storylines. Peru Nolaskoain started for the Katxorros who were looking to keep their Lezama unbeaten streak alive with their last defeat coming 412 days ago to, you guess it, Logroñés. After suffering their first defeat of the season last weekend to Real Oviedo B, Gaizka Garitano’s side were looking to get back to their winning ways.

Asier Villalibre had the first chance of the game when Peru Nolaskoain’s cross almost found the striker at the far post. The setup was beautiful, but 19-year-old was unable to get put his head on the ball. Minutes later Logroñés would respond by hitting the post. The visitors were playing with a high line that caused problems for Bilbao Athletic, but the game soon began to open up with both sides trading chances.

Gorka Pérez and Peru Nolaskoain both had great shots from outside the box while Hodei Oleaga was forced to make three saves from close range. As the first half drew to a close it was clear that either side could be in the lead, but neither was able to take advantage of their chances so far. After the break the Katxorros would take more control of the game which so far had been hampered by heavy wind and light rain.

Bilbao Athletic had their best chance of the game just after the hour mark when Iñigo Muñoz was taken down in the box and awarded a penalty. Iñigo Vicente stepped up to take and sent his shot to the left but saw the keeper make a diving save. Gaizka Larrazabal would also have two good chances in the second half that would be saved to keep the home side off the scoreboard.

The final whistle came with the game ending in a scoreless draw. Bilbao Athletic had struggled at times in the first half, but were much better in the final 45 minutes. Despite their chances in front of goal the Katxorros were unable to find the back of the net which saw them earn only one point. Garitano’s team has now gone well over a year since they last lost at Lezama and are currently tied at the top of the table with 14 points.
