Unai Nuñez Not Satisfied With Limited Role So Far This Season
Athletic’s failure to qualify for Europe last season has had major ramifications on the team. Not only are the Basques unable to compete for an international title, several players will see far fewer minutes as a direct result. Until the Copa del Rey really gets started the Lions will only be playing La Liga games and, even though there will be a need for rotations, it will be difficult to keep everyone happy.
According to sources around the Basque Country, Unai Nuñez is not satisfied with the limited role he has had so far this year. Manager Eduardo Berizzo has preferred to start Yeray at right center-back which has seen Nuñez play only one game this season after featuring 36 times during his debut campaign. There may not be a lot of minutes to go around but 21-year-old has already proven himself capable of competing in the Primera and wants the opportunity to enjoy more consistency.
Despite the decreased playing time, Nuñez wants to succeed at Athletic Club. Javier Beltran of AS has reported that the defender wants to prove that he deserves more prominence in Berizzo’s team and will work to earn a bigger role. As the season progresses the manager will have to rotate the lineup even more which should lead to more opportunities. It will be up to Nuñez to make the most of those chances and cement his place in the squad.
