Oscar De Marcos And Markel Susaeta Weigh In On Athletic’s 1-1 Draw Against Barcelona
Athletic bounced back from their disappointing loss against Villarreal with a fantastic performance at the Camp Nou. The Lions were able to play the Catalans to a 1-1 draw to earn a valuable point and are now building a nice rhythm at a difficult stretch of the season. After the game Oscar De Marcos and Markel Susaeta gave their thoughts on the match with both players satisfied with the result.
Oscar De Marcos
“We are very satisfied. Going ahead on the scoreboard in their stadium opened up the game more so scoring early benefited us. We tried to hold the score and in one moment they tied the game. But we continued to fight and show our best. Messi and Busquets are very important players for them and we thought it was a good opportunity to pressure more with them off the field. Without them we were able to risk more and steal the ball in dangerous areas. We had two great chances in front of the goalkeeper and were able to play straight up against them for most of the first half. After they brought on Messi they were able to recover and force us to defend more, but we are proud of how the team fought until the end.”
“We left the game with a good taste in our mouth. We played well and played our style of football. Having a player like Messi gives them a little bit more. In the second half it was harder for us to reach their area, which made things more difficult. Football is all about moments. Oscar was able to have one and it led to a goal. He played a great game. We have become accustomed to games like we played today.”
