Iñigo Martinez Injured In Athletic Club’s Draw Against Barcelona
Athletic Club put in a very impressive performance against Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Saturday to earn a valuable point on the road. The Lions scored in the first half thanks to a moment of brilliance from Markel Susaeta and Oscar De Marcos, but a late effort from Lionel Messi and Munir restored parity before the final whistle. It was a good results for the Basques, but there is some worrisome news.
Iñigo Martinez was seen holding his right thigh a few times early in the first half and grimaced with clear discomfort. The defender tried to continue playing but at the 22nd minute mark he sat down and needed medical attention. He eventually walked off the field on his own and was replaced by Peru Nolaskoain, which led to worry over what the injury could be.
At halftime Athletic announced that Martinez has suffered a possible quadriceps injury and will be undergoing further tests. After missing all of the preseason and the first two games of the campaign due to a calf injury it makes another muscle injury concerning. The hope is that it isn’t anything serious and that he will be able to return quickly, but he is already in doubt to play in Friday’s Basque Derby against Real Sociedad at the San Mamés.
