Aritz Aduriz Cleared To Play Against Villarreal After Returning To Training
It hasn’t been the start to the season that Aritz Aduriz had hoped for. The 37-year-old had to be taken off the field early in the second half of the first game of the year due to a hamstring issue which then sidelined him for a month. Then, after returning to training, he began to feel discomfort in his right thigh and missed the match against Real Betis over the weekend. Finally, there is some good news.
Manager Eduardo Berizzo revealed during Tuesday’s pregame press conference that Aduriz has returned to normal training and is cleared to play against Villarreal. The striker exercised apart from his teammates on Monday and looked like a doubt for Wednesday’s game but that has now changed. The real question at this point is whether or not Aduriz will actually play against Villarreal with a huge match against Barcelona looming on the weekend.
The upcoming game against Villarreal will require Berizzo to rotate his team. Markel Susaeta is suspended after being sent off on Sunday and with so many matches in such a short space of time it will be vital to keep the players fresh. There is a belief that Ander Capa could start on the right wing and the manager admitted that both Unai Nuñez and Peru Nolaskoain are options to play against Villarreal. Wednesday’s game presents Athletic with another big challenge as they look to remain unbeaten this season.
