Athletic’s Postponed Match Against Rayo Vallecano Now In The Process Of Being Rescheduled
After Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Real Betis, Athletic currently find themselves tied for 12th in the La Liga table. The Lions have earned six points from four matches to this point, but they will have a great chance to climb much higher. Their match against Rayo Vallecano, which was originally scheduled back on 1 September, was postponed due to stadium issues at Vallecas and is now in the process of being rescheduled.
According to the latest report from Juanma Velasco of Marca, the League and Spanish Federation have begun putting together possible dates that will be proposed to Athletic and Rayo Vallecano. The earliest date would see the match played on 2 October which may not be ideal for the Lions. Athletic would be coming off of a Saturday meeting with Barcelona before traveling to play Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday. Then, they would be hosting Real Sociedad in the first Basque Derby of the season just three days later.
The next proposed match would be played on 17 or 18 October which would be right after the next international break. If neither of these dates work for both clubs the league will look at other possibilities with the plan of scheduling the game during midweek European competitions. The ultimate goal is to play the match before the Christmas break so that the league will be settled and clear at the halfway point.
