Aritz Aduriz Continues To Train Apart From The Group, Expected To Miss Match Against Villarreal
Athletic club have already turned the page following Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Real Betis and are now focused on preparing for their next game. The Lions will have two training sessions before hosting Villarreal on Wednesday in what will be another difficult game. When Monday’s training session began all eyes were fixed on Aritz Aduriz who had missed the last few days with thigh discomfort and had to sit out Sunday’s fixture at the Benito Villamarín.
Aduriz was still unable to rejoin his teammates in regular training and spent most of the session jogging with trainer Xavier Clemente. The striker did do some work with the ball at his feet, but it wasn’t much. Aduriz is already a serious doubt for Wednesday’s game and the best case scenario would see him cleared to play against Barcelona on Saturday at the Camp Nou.
On another note, Peru Nolaskoain returned to train with the first team on Monday after playing with Bilbao Athletic over the weekend. The 19-year-old was also dealing with a sickness while under the orders of Gaizka Garitano but appeared to be completely over the issue. Asier Villalibre was also called to train by Eduardo Berizzo due to his stellar performances with Bilbao Athletic so far this season.
As Athletic prepare to host Villarreal there are expected to be changes in the lineup with the need for rotations. Markel Susaeta is already ruled out of the match after being sent off against Real Betis, which could give someone like Iñigo Córdoba or Gorka Guruzeta the opportunity to start in his place. With Aduriz also likely unavailable, Berizzo will have to put together a plan to keep the players fresh but also field a strong team capable of securing all three points against a formidable opponent.
