Aritz Aduriz Is Doubtful For Real Betis Game Due To Thigh Muscle Pain, Iker Muniain Cleared To Play
Athletic Club will play their first away game of the season on Sunday when they travel to the Benito Villamarín to face off with Real Betis. Understanding that this will be a challenging match, Eduardo Berizzo has had the team training behind closed doors for most of the week in preparation. Now, due to recent events, things may have just gotten a lot more difficult.
After Friday’s training session the club announced that Aritz Aduriz is dealing with muscle pain in his right thigh. The 37-year-old just returned from a month-long absence due to a hamstring injury in the same leg and is now in doubt to play this weekend. If he is unable to play Iñaki Williams would likely continue featuring as the striker, but Berizzo had made it clear that others such as Raúl García, Iker Muniain, and Gorka Guruzeta are options as well.
During his pregame press conference, Berizzo made it clear that no one has been ruled out for Sunday’s game. He said that Aduriz will be evaluated again tomorrow to determine whether or not the striker will be able to travel with the team to Seville. Meanwhile, the coach also revealed that Iker Muniain has been cleared to play. The midfielder suffered a calf bruise against Real Madrid and only returned to training on Wednesday.
Athletic Club are entering a very demanding stretch of their calendar which makes injuries even more worrisome. Over the next seven days the Lions will be playing games against Real Betis, Villarreal, and Barcelona before hosting Real Sociedad at the San Mamés on 5 October in the first Basque Derby of the season. If Aduriz misses an extended period of time it will be up to other stars to step up in his place.
