Iker Muniain Misses Training With Calf Bruise, Could Be Unavailable For Sunday’s Match Against Real Betis
Despite Athletic’s amazing performance against Real Madrid on Saturday there was a bit of bad news. Before the hour mark Iker Muniain was seen holding his calf and eventually sat down on the field and called for medical attention. The 25-year-old didn’t look to be in serious pain, but the discomfort was obvious and he was immediately taken out of the game and replaced by Ander Capa.
After the match Berizzo admitted that Muniain was struggling with calf pain, but refused to comment on what the injury might be. He said that the midfielder would get checked out and so far the club has yet to release any medical statement on the player which led many to believe that the injury was nothing concerning. However, the team returned to regular training on Tuesday and Muniain was not able to participate with his teammates.
Athletic eventually confirmed that Muniain had missed training in a press release, saying that the player is still dealing with discomfort after suffering a calf muscle bruise against Real Madrid. A muscle bruise may only be a minor issue, but Muniain’s availability for Sunday’s game against Real Betis is still in question. His availability will be determined by how quickly he recovers, which means that his participation in training throughout the remainder of the week will be something to monitor closely.
