“I want to continue this form” (AthleticTV)

Athletic Club may have only earned a 1-1 draw against Real Madrid on Saturday, but the performance certainly felt like a victory for the Basques. Eduardo Berizzo’s team were not afraid to attack and press their visitors which led to a spectacular performance at the San Mamés. After the game Iñigo Martinez and Oscar De Marcos spoke with Athletic TV to give their opinions and were clearly pleased with the result.

Iñigo Martinez

“The match was important for me. I felt good so I’m happy, not just for myself, but for my teammates as well. Physically I think I did well and I want to continue this form. We have our own way of playing and you have to do what the coach asks of you. We could have won, but we weren’t perfect. In the second half we didn’t have enough of the ball and that’s where their goal came from. In the first half we were a great team. We had a lot of the ball and created chances, but obviously its very difficult to continue in that rhythm for 90 minutes. You have to play with intensity and pressure to get points in these games. This is an exciting year for everyone.”

Oscar De Marcos

“It was a great match with a spectacular atmosphere. Football exists to enjoy games like these. It’s a game that everyone likes to see and today we experienced it in front of our fans. We wanted to win, but we still left feeling happy. We faced a great opponent and the team responded. This season, without competitions during the midweek, we have no excuse. This rhythm has to be constant. There are always things to improve, but it is always good to measure yourself against players like these. The first half was great and we deserved to win. In the second half they put more players forward and we were pushed until the end. You have to focus on the good and recognize the bad that needs to be corrected. You feel great pride when looking in the mirror after this effort.”
