Dani García “It’s A Special Game For The Fans”
With the international break now over everyone’s attention is back on club football. This Saturday Athletic Club will be welcoming Real Madrid to the San Mamés in what will be a highly anticipated match. On Thursday night, midfielder Dani García was a special guest on the Fuera de Juego radio show where he said that the Lions will have to play their best to have a chance of earning points against such a strong opponent.
“It’s a special game for the fans. It’s a classic, but if we don’t play well it will be a step backwards for us. It will be a very complicated game. We have to do things the right way or it will be very hard. The key will be to score the chances that we have and to not make errors because the team we are playing will take advantage of that. The fans want to see us play Real Madrid and if we can press them they will be happy. The tie against Huesca left us feeling unhappy. You can’t end in a tie when you are leading 2-0 in the second half so we are eager to play again.”
Aritz Aduriz is expected to be back after missing the last month with a hamstring injury and Dani García said that the striker has looked good in training. On a personal level, the 28-year-old wants to continue improving in the Athletic system and is hoping to play better football over the coming weeks.
“Aritz [Aduriz] is fine. He’s been training well this week. We wanted him back because he can score goals and is an important player for us. We are still improving and I know that I have room for improvement myself. I hope you will see it in the next few games. You have to be ambitious. The goal has to be qualifying for Europe, but first we have to focus on Saturday’s game.”
Saturday’s game could also see the return of Iñigo Martinez who has been out since the start of the preseason with a calf injury. He recently returned from international duty with Spain and has been training normally which should make his available to play this weekend. Although Iago Herrerín has also re-joined his teammates, Unai Simón is expected to start in goal for the third straight match.
