Alex Remiro And Athletic Club Set To Hold Contract Meeting Before The End Of The International Break
Alex Remiro’s contract dispute has dominated the headlines around Athletic Club since the start of the season. With the departure of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Remiro was expected to be the starter for the first game of the year but was left out of the team. Manager Eduardo Berizzo then confirmed that the 23-year-old would not play until he agreed to an extension. So far there has been nothing from either side.
Two weeks ago it was reported that Remiro and his representative would meet with Athletic in early September to lay out their demands for a new contract. Juanma Velasco of Marca has now confirmed that the two sides are scheduled to sit down before Athletic’s match against Real Madrid which will be played after the international break comes to an end. The hope is that an agreement can be reached.
There is no denying the fact that other clubs are interested in Alex Remiro. The goalkeeper has proven that he is ready to test himself in the Primera and will be free to talk to other clubs in January if he does not sign a new contract with Athletic. At this point there is concern that the Lezama product may already be looking to leave next summer, but sources claim that both sides are still open to reaching an agreement on an extension.
