Athletic Club Will Play A Friendly Match Against Real Valladolid On Thursday At Lezama
Athletic Club have found themselves in a difficult situation. With last weekend’s match against Rayo Vallecano being postponed due to stadium issues, and the international break beginning, the Lions have a 19 day break between their last game against Huesca and their next fixture which is against Real Madrid on 15 September. It certainly isn’t an ideal position to be in, but the Basques are looking for a way to continue building their rhythm.
On Monday the club announced their training plans for the week which included a friendly match against Real Valladolid on Thursday. The game will take place behind closed doors at Lezama and will help the team stay competitive during this unfortunate period of the season where it is easy to lose rhythm and consistency.
Sources close to the club have said that manager Eduardo Berizzo is treating these three weeks like a second preseason and has been focused on fixing issues that have already been identified. In training sessions that have been opened to the public there has been a clear priority put on cycling possession in the midfield, creating chances, and intense pressing. The team is still improving every day as they look to perfect Toto’s system, but the ultimate goal is to be ready for Real Madrid when they visit the San Mamés in two weeks.
