Oihan Sancet Suffers Knee Injury During Bilbao Athletic’s Draw Against Gimnástica
Oihan Sancet may only be 18 years old, but he’s already shown immense talent and the potential to become an important player for Athletic Club. This summer he was called up by manager Eduardo Berizzo to train with the first team and the decision was made for him to split time between the senior squad and Bilbao Athletic. So far he’s only featured for the reserves, but he may not be forced to miss time with an injury.
On Saturday the midfielder started for Bilbao Athletic against Gimnástica but was only able to play for 37 minutes. After challenging for a ball in the air he fell awkwardly and was unable to continue as he was in clear pain and holding his left knee. After the match was over Athletic officially announced that he had suffered a knee sprain and will be undergoing further tests to determine the extent.
Whenever a player suffers a knee injury there is always worry that it could be severe, namely a torn ACL or other ligament damage. Javier Beltran of AS has reported that the medical staff is concerned that it may in fact be something serious, but Sancet will have to wait until tests are completed to find out the exact diagnosis. The hope is that the 18-year-old has avoided a major injury and will be able to return quickly.
