Peru Nolaskoain Set For Contract Renewal With Athletic Club
Peru Nolaskoain has been one of the revelations of Athletic Club under Eduardo Berizzo. The 19-year-old, who was seen as a midfield starlet, was promoted to the first team by the new manager who then moved him to center-back where he has started the first two games of the season. The Lezama product has played well and scored the opening goal of the campaign against Leganés. Now he’s in line for a new contract.
As Juanma Velasco of Marca reports, the 19-year-old signed an extension three years ago that is set to expire next summer and, like most youth contracts at Athletic, provided the club with options to prolong the deal. Back in 2016 Yeray and Mikel Vesga were also in the same position and saw their contracts extended just one month into the season. As things stand right now Athletic could automatically renew his deal at any moment and are expected to do so in the near future.
Like similar situations in the past, Athletic will likely trigger the renewal and then begin to work on a more serious extension that would see Nolaskoain’s wages and release clause increased to reflect his current status at the club. The defender is very much seen as a important player for the future and is already proving his worth right now. So far this season Berizzo has already handed debuts to Unai Simón, Gorka Guruzeta, and Peru Nolaskoain but others could be on their way as well.
