Gorka Guruzeta “I Am Very Happy To Make My Debut At Home”
Gorka Guruzeta made his first team debut on Monday night against Huesca, much to the delight of the Athletic fans at the San Mamés. The 21-year-old led Bilbao Athletic in scoring last season with 18 goals and is seen as one of the great promises for the future. Afterwards he told Athletic TV that he was very excited to make his debut at home and highlighted the fact that the team has to play their best all 90 minutes so that they don’t drop points like they did against Huesca.
“I am very happy to make my debut at home, in front of our own fans. When the match was 2-0 we thought we had the victory in hand. After they scored a goal they became more confident and we were only able to earn a draw. We thought it was almost done. Huesca are newly promoted, but last week they defeated Eibar and against us they earned a draw despite being down 2-0. Football can be very complicated. We have to continue the full 90 minutes with pressure and intensity. It demands a lot from us, but we have to play our style because we have been able to create a lot of chances and score goals. We cannot relax because in the end we only got a draw and we are not satisfied with the result.”
By making his debut with the first team Guruzeta became the 616th player to do so for Athletic. To make the moment even better, he came on in the 83rd minute for captain Markel Susaeta who has appeared in 484 matches which is one of the highest in the history of the club. Manager Eduardo Berizzo believes that Guruzeta will be able to add attacking depth to the squad and has made it clear that the forward will be given his chances this season.
