Basque National Team Will Play Friendly Against Venezuela On 12 October At Mendizorrotza
With the Basque National Team unable to compete in serious tournaments the team tries to play one friendly every year. Normally the match takes place around Christmas, but last winter a fixture was not scheduled. In response the Basque Federation tried to put together a game against Chile in May which was eventually denied, but they have finally found a partner.
According to a breaking report from Euskal Telebista, the Basque Federation and Venezuela have reached an agreement that will see the two teams play each other on 12 October. The match will take place at Alavés’ Mendizorrotza and is scheduled to kick off at 20:45 local time. With an agreement apparently in place it shouldn’t take long before the fixture is officially announced.
With matches normally being played around Christmas holding a game in October may seem a bit odd. However, it will take place during an international break so it will not conflict with the La Liga calendar. Several players from Athletic Club will be expected to feature and the Basque Federation will be hoping to see a large turnout of fans, especially without a holiday to contend with.
