Oscar De Marcos “This Is A New Season And There Is Hope”
It hasn’t been the best week for news surrounding Athletic Club. Aritz Aduriz and Iñaki Williams both had videos posted of them on social media that could have been taken negatively, especially Iñaki who had an argument with his girlfriend. After Saturday’s training session Oscar De Marcos appeared before the media and made it clear that the team is here to support each other and praised President Josu Urrutia for the way he handles these issues.
“What has happened to Iñaki these last few days is not easy, but we are all here for him. Yesterday wasn’t so nice but we are facing it together. I hope you don’t notice all the extra stuff. With non-sporting things the team wants to be in the news as little as possible, although these things happen. We have had many non-sporting headlines but that shouldn’t affect the team. We have to be united and push forward. We all have a great relationship with the President. If he had to talk to someone he would do it privately. We get along very well and when he has something to say he tells us and we listen.”
Turning his attention to the upcoming game against Huesca, De Marcos said that he hopes to see the fans supporting the team just like in the previous match against Leganés. Poor performances last season turned the fans off and the players are excited to get the support once again.
“Hopefully we will play a good game and the atmosphere will be the same as the first match when we felt very supported by our fans. That gives us a lot of energy. We don’t even want to imagine what happened last season. The fans and the team were disengaged due to the poor performances. This is a new season and the hope is here. There are things to improve from the Leganés game. We reviewed it and we know what we have to improve. Capa? He is an animal, you can all see that, but he’s also a great teammate. It’s going to be good for us both to have this competition and keep fighting for minutes.”
Eduardo Berizzo will have to make at least one change to the lineup on Monday with Aritz Aduriz missing out due to a hamstring injury. All signs point to Raúl García starting, although his position is not known at this time. In addition, Iñigo Martinez could also return to the lineup after missing all of the preseason with a calf injury. Despite all the negativity in the news the team is solely focused on winning their second game of the season and Berizzo will have the players ready and focused to face a tough opponent.
