Raúl García In Line To Start Against Huesca With Aritz Aduriz Ruled Out

Raul Garcia Training Eduardo Berizzo

Eduardo Berizzo has a tough decision to make for Athletic Club’s La Liga match against Huesca on Monday. Aritz Aduriz will miss the game due to a hamstring injury which means someone will need to take his place in the starting lineup. There are several options to replace the 37-year-old, but it at least looks certain that Raúl García will be inserted into the lineup in some way.

Over the last few days of training Raúl García has been practicing with the expected starting lineup, although his position is in question. The 32-year-old is capable of playing in the midfield, on the wing, and as the striker if need be. Berizzo used him up front during a preseason game earlier this summer, but admitted afterwards that he preferred García being in the midfield while highlighting the fact that the team lacked directness.

At this point it is very difficult to predict how the team will line up. García could directly replace Aduriz, or Iñaki Williams could start up front with García taking his place on the wing or in the midfield. Berizzo has several options and will be looking to find the best fit with the team needing scoring strength on the field with Aduriz ruled out. If the last few days at Lezama are any indication Raúl García will be starting, but that only leads to a bigger question.
