Unai Simón And Peru Nolaskoain Excited To Make Memorable First Team Debuts
Monday’s match against Leganés was a very special occasion for Unai Simón and Peru Nolaskoain who made their first team debuts. Simón was able to make a miraculous save that allowed the Lions to score the winning goal in stoppage time while Nolaskoain found the back of the net early in the first half. Afterwards, both players spoke with Athletic TV and were clearly excited about their debuts.
“Little by little I became more relaxed, especially seeing the team flowing I was able to calm down. Berizzo congratulated me on the game I played. That’s football. One day you’re on loan with Elche and then you get the call from Athletic to come back and you are excited. You really feel the support of the San Mamés. Not only me, but the whole team. The fans know how much their support helps us. It’s something that has to be seen all year round and we are very grateful for it. I haven’t spoken with Remi about anything, nor he with me. I have been focused on the game. I’m very calm and I have to work every day to improve. Here you even enjoy the training sessions every day. If the coach decides to play me again this weekend I will be delighted because there are great goalkeepers here.”
“You dream of making your debut as a child and this was a dream debut. Playing in The Cathedral, in front of our own fans, and scoring a goal at the San Mamés in incredible. The sensations were great. It is a very strong emotion to see the fans celebrate your goal. I had never thought about it and it feels euphoric in that moment. There is a lot of adrenaline, but the important thing is that we earned the three points at home to start the league. I try to work hard every day to earn opportunities to play and I want to make the most of my chances. The manager told me that he had confidence in me and I try to repay him for that confidence. It is very important to start the season well. We knew these points were vital and now we go into the second game with enthusiasm and desire. It is easy to play with players who have the level of Nuñez, Yeray, and Iñigo who is injured right now. They have helped me a lot. They are better than me defensively because they have been playing there for a while. I feel comfortable with the ball because I played in midfield, but I have to learn from them every day in training.”
