Aritz Aduriz Suffers Hamstring Injury During Win Over Leganés
Athletic Club’s La Liga opener against Leganés had almost every storyline imaginable. A contract dispute saw Alex Remiro left out of the squad in favor of 21-year-old Unai Simón, Peru Nolaskoain scored the opening goal on his debut, and Iker Muniain scored the winner deep in stoppage time. Unfortunately, there was also a injury that could significantly affect the team.
Midway through the second half Aritz Aduriz rose high for a cross in the box. He was able to blast a header that forced the goalkeeper to make a miraculous save, but when he landed he immediately gestured to the sidelines and called for a substitute. Once he made it to the bench it was clear that he was in pain and was upset as he was seen shaking his head in anger.
After the game Athletic announced that Aritz Aduriz had suffered a hamstring injury in his right leg and will be undergoing further tests to determine the severity of the issue. The striker missed the team’s final two preseason friendlies due to hamstring issues which could have led to Monday’s injury. The hope is that the 37-year-old hasn’t sustained anything major, but the coaching staff has made it clear that they will be careful with Aduriz due to his age.
