The summer has gone by rather quickly for Athletic who are now preparing for their first game of the La Liga season. Eduardo Berizzo’s team is gearing up for an opener against Leganés and the players are excited to get things under way. It is no surprise to see the squad train from Friday through Sunday behind closed doors, but there are some added bonuses.

Athletic will train at the San Mamés for the first time this summer on Sunday. Berizzo values the chance for his players to get comfortable with the pitch and being in the stadium, while it will also be a treat for players like Oihan Sancet and Christian Ganea who have never been on the field at The Cathedral. Yuri Berchiche, Ander Capa, and Dani García have already played matches at the San Mamés with other teams, but Sunday will be the first time they step onto the field as Lions.

Berizzo has also been preparing his lineup for Monday’s match and has looked for ways to keep up fitness and competition. Friday’s training session saw a group of first team players scrimmage Bilbao Athletic, although the specific team is unknown due to training being private. At this point sources say that Toto has already chosen his starting XI for the game against Leganés and there is no doubt that the Lions are ready to roar at the San Mamés.
