Andoni López Joins Almeria On Loan For The 2018/2019 Season
When the preseason began Andoni López was expected to join Numancia on loan very quickly. The Segunda club had been in talks to sign the left-back since January and Athletic saw the deal well. However, an injury to Iñigo Martinez allowed López to continue training with the first team and he was transitioned to center-back. The goal has always been to send the 22-year-old on loan and now that move have finally happen, but with a different destination.
On Saturday Athletic Club officially announced that Andoni López has be sent to play with Almeria for the 2018/2019 season. Competing in the Segunda will allow the defender to continue his development as he tests himself against stronger competition and Almeria appear to be the club that was able to guarantee the most playing time. In fact, López is expected to compete for a starting role in the team.
López recently signed a contract extension with Athletic Club through 2021 and is seen as a player who could become an important part of the first team in the future. This year he will be hoping to prove himself worthy of a place in Berizzo’s squad next summer, but the most important thing is his continual development. The Lezama graduate has shown signs of brilliance and the hope is that he will take a another big step forward while competing with Almeria.
