Asier Villalibre Returns To Bilbao Athletic
Before the preseason even began the decision was made that Asier Villalibre would play with Bilbao Athletic this year if he was unable to earn a place in the first team. The 20-year-old has struggled to perform well while away on loan the last two years and his lack of consistency has also led to a major drop in confidence. The club wants him to have the chance to get back to his best and believes staying at home is the best place for that to happen.
After Athletic participated in the Opel Cup, while Villalibre stayed home, manager Eduardo Berizzo revealed that he had already spoken with the forward and told him that the best decision would be spending the year with Bilbao Athletic. He did admit that the player would have a say in the decision and it now appears as though the Lezama product has agreed.
Asier Villalibre started and played the entire 90 minutes in Bilbao Athletic’s 1-1 draw with Tudelano on Saturday. It was the first time he’s participated with the reserve team this summer despite being left behind on a number of occasions by Berizzo. He has accepted the club’s decision and will spend the year under the orders of Gaizka Garitano where he will be hoping to revitalize his young career and try to prove himself worthy of a place at the San Mamés.
